What this is all about...

So this is going to be my blog for my year (or possibly more) in Japan. I'll post stories, photos, and such before I leave and while I'm there. This is mostly for me as a kind of digital journal and scrapbook of my time there, but it's also to let my friends see what's going on. This blog will only be about my trip to Japan, so that when I look back at it, it will be like reading a scrapbook.
I don't know if I will have a digital camera at first or not, but I'm hoping I will. If not, it will be my first non-necessity purchase. I love to take pictures, and I think the old adage "a pictures worth a thousand words" is very true. I still look back at the photos from my various trips, and they often trigger memories I had all but forgotten. Also, undoubtedly there will be things which can only be believed if seen or that can't be described adequately in words.
Well, that's the purpose of this journal. From here out, I'll be posting about getting ready to leave, training, and Japan itself. For now, I must go sort through clothes!
